made and then deleted a tipsy post yesterday that was probably about two paragraphs longer than it needed to be, so a much shorter (more coherent?) version of it:

fcg's decisions around his purpose and his framing of current obstacles as trials for the Changebringer is fascinating, especially in how it interacts with F.C.G's general willingness to give up everything (especially himself!) for his designated purpose. Be it Dancer's wellbeing, the party's wellbeing, or the Changebringer's desires.

F.C.G's general willingness to self martyr was never going to be an isolated loss, no matter what they thought of themselves. But now- it's not just a "its my job to see this done", but a "its what we need to do" and its both a little heartening to see the shift from "i" to "we" and the push towards a grander scope for their own life. and a little worrisome, feeling like seeing old patterns repeated in a different font.

So I’m related to a professor who always told me not to pirate textbooks because the reason they’re so expensive is that fewer of them print than a lot of other books and she, as a person who publishes, would barely make any money off of work she spent years doing if they weren’t unfortunately relatively high in price. She is on board with using libraries and such but she’s super anti-piracy for that reason

I obviously don't have the experience of being a published professor, or of working in writing/publishing, so take everything I say with that in mind.

But, based on my limited knowledge, I don't think it's piracy's fault if she'd barely make anything. Publishing companies decide percentages of profits in contracts--and you can negotiate a little, I think, but not significantly? That's my understanding at least.

Framing it as students not buying the books when they're being told/required to buy so many at such high prices instead of as publishing companies taking an unfair cut of the profit feels...misdirected. These students are not the enemy or the problem or cruel or dumb. They're trying their best to manage their education

It's the publishing houses/companies, from what I know, that we should be pissed with. Students and authors alike. For high prices, for low pay, etc.

But again. Not an expert. This is simply my understanding of the forces at play

gonna log this one under "i can't get that this is how light-based magic can would work" of my head ( and i've shared this sentiment on discord in the past but now i'm putting here ) because light =/= holy in this realm. it's just... a phenomena that we can use to percieve color, so it should be colorful in practice. it can be blue, red, green, white--it doesn't matter. and it can take any shape it wants ( bullets, cards, stars, flowers, orbs, etc ).... and you can use it as a projectile like any other magic.

dark also =/= unholy in this realm ( thought many teoniv denizens have to UNLEARN that because they've long been told that dark magic is unholy/evil ).

and because the magic system operates on a "primary-secondary" system--with maybe a teritiary if they're not just a being that can control everything--you can use the opposite affinity to add a little punch whatever form light magic takes.

light isn't a very common affinity, though, due to how all encompassing it can be ( same with dark ) and there are not many beings in eokketion that know how to properly use it and make complicated shapes or spells aside from your typical non-descript light orb or beam or sparkles. those that do don't broadcast it either for various reasons

didn't technically happen on the street but on the road.

this really happened. i was 15.

i was headed to an opera in the park event in san francisco with my family. we were gonna meet my 11th grade teacher there because i was the only one who wanted to go. to get there from where we lived you had to go on mountain roads for about 3 hours.

30 or so minutes into driving, where most people lose cell service, there was a car ahead of us. the car breaks strongly after going about 60 mi/hr...a couple of times.

the third time it started smoking, came to a dead stop, and a native american woman fucking jumped and rolled out of the passenger's side. we immediately stopped.

the woman, younger than i am now, got up and ran to us at top speed and we all got out. she was screaming and crying and explained to us that her ex-boyfriend had kidnapped her and she was afraid he was gonna kill her. guy jumped out of the car and my mom started screaming at him and we all looked as if we were gonna jump him. he got back in his car, after an awkward dance of lunge and backtrack, and drove away. we all jumped back in, the woman sitting next to me in the backseat, and headed back to the last town.

i was the only one with half a bar of service. i called the cops and we met at a jack in the box. the cops did nothing. she lived on the res so i guess it was to be expected, but with the amount of women and girls who "go missing" there it's not hard to add up the facts and draw conclusions.

we waited for her family to come and pick her up.

one of the weirdest things to happen to me, the next day i told my teacher we saved someone's life on the way to san francisco.
